CW Adapting DC Series iZombie for Television

As first reported by Deadline, The CW is adapting yet another DC series. This time it’s the critically acclaimed yet cancelled series iZombie, by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred. Rob Thomas, of Veronica Mars fame, is teaming with Diane Ruggiero (also from VM) to script the series. No word on any other cast or crew announcements, as well as how involved the original creative team will be. Coming off similar announcements the past few days, comic book TV looks to be packed the next few years, especially on The CW.

iZombie, originally printed by Vertigo, deals with ”a supernatural crime procedural that centers on a med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity. But with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories, and with the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head” (Deadline).

My Take:

Absolutely amazing. I love Veronica Mars and iZombie, so this is probably the best news imaginable. Both of those had small but extremely passionate fan bases. They were also both cut short well before their time. I believe in the creative ability of Rob Thomas, but I also worry this will probably become a niche show. Ratings are always an issue on network TV, although The CW seems to be less concerned than the big four. There are tons of DC shows coming, along with the announcement of Marvel and Netflix and the currently-airing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s never been a better time to see your favorite heroes (or zombies) come to the small screen.
